Friendship, Fellowship, and Rotary’s Four-Way Test

Mensa’s Armchair Conversations are an opportunity to have friendly conversations about serious topics. This conversation will be about Rotary’s 4-way test.
In 1932, when Herbert J. Taylor’s Club Aluminum Products company’s sales were hit hard during the Depression, he thought about ways to save his company. One thing was to address the ethical standing of his company. To improve the moral climate at work, he conceived of a “4-way test” to evaluate everything that “we think, say, or do.”
- Is it the truth?
- Is it fair to all concerned?
- Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
- Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
When he was international director of Rotary, he introduced the 4-Way Test, which Rotarians warmly embraced. Maybe Mensans should embrace it as well!
